I wouldn't worry about collecting to many trees on the first night. Just enough to make your wooden house and housing materials. Maybe also a full set of wooden armor.
The total amount of wood needed for all of this depends on the size of your house but roughly 150 to 200 wood should get you what you need in the beginning.
