You want as much defense as you can get early on, a full set of cactus armor will grant you with 5 defense points though it does require a lot of cactus to craft the full set and the sword. Be sure to craft the sword first as a better weapon should always come before better gear. Same as the wooden armor it will take 75 cactus blocks to craft a full set of cactus armor
